Etimologiya
Mitridat mənası "Mitra tərəfindən verilmiş" olan farsların "Mihrdat" adının yunanca yazılışıdır. qədim İran günəş tanrısının adıdır. Adın özü qədim İran Miθra-dāta- sözündəndir.
Həyatı
VI Mitridat e.ə. 130-cu ildə anadan olmuş, e.ə. 120-cu ildə Pont taxtına çıxmışdır. O, e.ə. 107-cü ildə Savmakın üsyanını yatırdıqdan sonra Bospor dövlətini, Qara dəniz sahilindəki bütün yunan şəhərlərini, həmçinin Kiçik Ermənistanı və Kolxidanı özünə tabe etmişdir. VI Mitridat Kappadokiya, və Vifiniyanı ələ keçirmək məqsədi ilə Romaya qarşı müharibələr aparmışdır (e.ə. 90–84, 83–81, 74–63), lakin darmadağın edilmiş, özünü öldürmüşdür.
